Winter Relief Amid Crisis in Gaza
In Gaza, families continue to endure the compounded effects of prolonged conflict, displacement, and limited access to basic necessities as winter sets in. For many, the colder months heighten vulnerability, with inadequate shelter and clothing placing children, the elderly, and those in fragile health at greater risk. As temperatures drop, access to warmth becomes essential for safety, dignity, and well-being.
To address these needs, MERCY Malaysia’s Gaza Office is carrying out winter relief distributions in Tel Al-Hawa. Essential items including blankets, winter clothing such as jackets, shoes, hats and coats, as well as shaders are being provided to help families protect themselves from the elements. Members of MERCY Malaysia’s Specialised Care Team 9 (SCT 9), who were on the ground at the time, supported the distribution process alongside local teams.
Warm clothing and proper bedding help reduce the risk of cold-related illnesses and allow families to rest with greater peace of mind. Simple comforts, such as children staying warm through the night or parents feeling more able to care for their loved ones, offer reassurance amid ongoing hardship.
Despite ongoing shortages and access constraints, this winter relief effort was made possible through the coordination of MERCY Malaysia’s Gaza Office, with assistance from SCT 9 in distributing essential items directly to beneficiaries. Through this collective effort, your support helps restore warmth, dignity, and hope to families in Gaza, ensuring they are not left to face the winter alone.
In the midst of hardship, your support helps sustain essential care and restores a measure of stability for patients and their families. Every contribution plays a part in preserving life, dignity, and hope in Gaza.

Strengthening Compassionate Support Through Psychological First Aid
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a vital skill that helps reduce distress and support emotional recovery in the aftermath of crises. Recognising its importance in humanitarian settings, MERCY Malaysia conducted a two-day Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training that brought together 22 dedicated volunteers, led by the organisation’s Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) team at the Headquarters. The training aimed to equip participants with essential skills to provide immediate emotional and psychosocial support, while also highlighting the importance of self-care in humanitarian work.
Throughout the training, participants were introduced to core PFA principles, including effective communication, active listening, ensuring safety and comfort, and linking affected individuals with practical assistance. Interactive activities and scenario-based discussions helped strengthen volunteers’ confidence in offering calm, compassionate and appropriate support during emergencies such as disasters, outbreaks or conflict.
The session reinforced MERCY Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to prioritise mental and emotional well-being in its humanitarian responses. By recognising the importance of self-care alongside supporting others, volunteers are better equipped to serve with empathy, resilience and compassion in the communities they support.

Sri Lanka Flood Response
Floods do more than damage homes and livelihoods. They disrupt family routines, limit access to healthcare, and place added physical and emotional strain on parents, children, and older family members. When floodwaters rise, daily needs such as medical treatment, safe water, and a sense of security become harder to reach, leaving many families vulnerable long after the waters recede.
Yet within these challenges, hope remains. With timely healthcare, emotional support, and community-led recovery efforts, families are able to regain stability and begin rebuilding their lives. Each step towards restored health and wellbeing brings renewed strength, resilience, and optimism for a safer and healthier future.
In response to the recent floods, MERCY Malaysia provided essential support to affected families in Sri Lanka, delivering mobile medical services and psychosocial activities within affected communities. By bringing care directly to those in need and addressing both physical and emotional wellbeing, MERCY Malaysia supports families in rebuilding resilience and moving forward with hope towards a safer and healthier future.
We will remain committed to supporting flood-affected communities by improving access to essential healthcare and nurturing recovery that addresses both physical and emotional needs.

Sri Lanka Flood Response
In the aftermath of severe flooding in parts of Sri Lanka, families are working to rebuild their daily lives while coping with the health and emotional strain left behind by the disaster. Amid damaged infrastructure and disrupted access to care, hope emerges through timely support for those most affected, especially children, older persons, and individuals living with chronic conditions.
One flood-affected patient shared, “After the floods, it was very difficult for us to travel for treatment. Having the mobile clinic here gave us relief and ensured we did not miss our medication.”
In response, MERCY Malaysia deployed its mobile clinic to Grama Niladhari, Manathive, Puttalam, providing essential medical care to 341 residents. The team treated common post-flood illnesses and ensured continuity of care for patients with long-term health needs, helping to overcome access and mobility barriers.
Recognising the emotional impact of the floods on children, MERCY Malaysia conducted Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) sessions for children, ranging from ages 4 until 7 years old through simple colouring activities. These sessions offered a calm and safe space for children to express themselves, reduce stress, and support emotional recovery in a very tough time for their lives.
MERCY Malaysia remains committed to supporting affected communities in Sri Lanka by strengthening healthcare access and community resilience.
