MERCY Malaysia Philippine Earthquake Response
Following the earthquake, MERCY Malaysia continues to prioritise psychosocial recovery alongside humanitarian relief, recognising that healing involves both visible and invisible wounds.
As part of its Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programme, MERCY Malaysia conducted Stress Management and Coping Skills sessions with 26 Local Government Unit (LGU) volunteers. Through guided breathing exercises and expressive arts, the sessions provided space for emotional release, peer support, and reflection. Volunteers shared experiences of fear, anxiety, and hope, highlighting the need for ongoing psychosocial care for responders.
MERCY Malaysia also established Child-Friendly Spaces in displacement camps, reaching 30 children through drawing and play-based activities that supported emotional expression and social interaction.
Mental health and child protection remain core pillars of MERCY Malaysia’s response. In times of crisis, safe spaces are a fundamental part of recovery. They support emotional well-being and help build long-term resilience. MERCY Malaysia remains committed to inclusive humanitarian efforts that protect dignity, strengthen communities, and leave no one behind.

MERCY Malaysia at Malaysia World Habitat Day & Malaysia Urban Forum 2025
In conjunction with World Habitat Day 2025, MERCY Malaysia is honored to take part in Urbanice Malaysia’s Malaysia World Habitat Day & Malaysia Urban Forum (WHD 2025 & MUF 2025), held on 6 October 2025 at Dewan Semarak, Cyberjaya. This year’s theme, “How Will Cities Survive Climate Change?”, brings together experts, policymakers, and changemakers to explore solutions for more resilient and sustainable cities.
Representing the humanitarian sector, MERCY Malaysia President, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Perdaus, joined the Urban Breakfast - High Impact Dialogue on Urban Resilience in Response to Climate Change, a thought-provoking session featuring key voices from DBKL, REDAC, Tzu Chi Foundation, and MERCY Malaysia. The panel delved into the urgent topic of Urban Crisis Response, discussing how urban centres can strengthen preparedness and adapt to the growing impacts of climate change through collaboration between municipal, research, humanitarian, and community-based efforts.
Adding to the day’s activities, MERCY Malaysia’s Deputy Executive Director, Hafiz Amirrol, participated in the Focused Clinic on Tackling Floods, sharing insights into flood vulnerability and early warning systems from a humanitarian response perspective. His session highlighted the importance of community readiness, data-driven risk assessments, and early action in reducing disaster impact across Malaysia’s most flood-prone areas.
Through its participation, MERCY Malaysia reaffirms its commitment to advancing urban resilience, climate action, and inclusive disaster preparedness, working alongside government agencies, researchers, and civil society to ensure that no one is left behind in the face of an increasingly unpredictable climate future.

How do we build safer schools and communities before disaster strikes? By equipping the next generation with the tools to lead.
At the recent Training of Trainers for the School Preparedness Programme, held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas, 60 students came together to strengthen their knowledge and capacity in disaster risk reduction. Guided by the principles of preparedness and community resilience, the programme is a step towards empowering youth to take on meaningful roles in times of crisis.
This initiative reflects the spirit of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and its call to invest in resilience, not in disaster response. With disasters continuing to cost lives, livelihoods, and trillions in global economic losses, building local capacity remains one of the most impactful and cost-effective solutions.
Every trained student is a multiplier. Their knowledge will help shape safer schools, informed communities, and a generation that is better prepared for tomorrow.
We thank all our partners and participants for their commitment to this shared goal.
