MERCY MALAYSIA IN MYANMAR
1. MAGWAY, MYANMAR
On 18 – 25 February 2017, MERCY Malaysia’s medical team on our 5th Cleft Lip & Palate Surgical Mission to Magway, Myanmar, performed treatment on 50 children at Magway Regional Hospital.
2. KYAUK TAN
The appalling conditions of Kyauk Tan Sub-Rural Health Center concerned safety of the community has led MERCY Malaysia – led by our Director of Programme Development & Operations, Mr. Norazam Ab Samah – to discuss the reconstruction and renovation of the centre with the Rakhine State Health Department (SHD) in order to ensure that communities in and surrounding Kyauk Tan including 11 villages in the area are able to access a more quality Primary Healthcare (PHC) services in future.
3. THET KEL PYIN
The SRHC in Thet Kel Pyin, also near Sittwe Town, which is the only Emergency Referral Centre serving IDP camps and villages for communities staying outside of Sittwe Town, had been renovated to increase its capacity of managing patients to ensure it offers continuous and quality services. Managed by SHD of Sittwe and supported by International NGO including MERCY Malaysia, the service at Thet Kel Pyin SRHC will run for seven days a week to ensure referral services are available for the communities, including provision on staffing and medical supplies.
4. BAW DU PHA
Apart from providing primary healthcare (PHC) services for IDPs, MERCY Malaysia has also supported the Rakhine SHD during their on-going health campaign including EPI & Polio Distribution of hygiene kits to 1350 families in Baw Du Pha, one of the IDP camp outside of Sittwe. In Sittweealone, with 1015 hygiene kits distributed to households inside the IDPs Camps and villages around the area, the PHC services are now covering 9 sites near the area including three static and six mobile clinics both in the villages as well as IDP camps, providing free consultation and medicines as prescribed by the medical officers.
5. SITTWE

6. MAUNGDAW, NORTHERN RAKHINE
MERCY Malaysia team distributed hygiene kits and tarpaulin sheets designated for four villages in North Maungdaw. Some essential medical supplies were also distributed to Maungdaw station hospital during the visit upon receiving an official request from the Township Medical Officer (TMO). On 10 March 2017, MERCY Malaysia also donated a generator for Maungdaw Station hospital. The handing over was attended by Representative of the TMO Dr. Myat Htun Khine and MERCY Malaysia Director of Programme Development & Operations, Mr. Norazam Ab Samah.
