THANK YOU MUTIARA JOHOR CORPORATION (JCORP) FOR YOUR DONATION.

200cb14e-e13a-432b-ae67-fffc93e7a205MERCY Malaysia is honoured to be selected as the recipient for State investment arm Johor Corporation (JCorp)’s welfare body Mutiara JCorp’s CSR Initiative, “Relief Fund for Middle East Conflict Areas”. Mutiara JCorp raised RM210,000 for the Middle East Conflict Humanitarian Fund in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia.

The fund started on 23 December 2016 with donation boxes were placed at selected mosques and its private specialist hospitals, subsequently after the two-month long campaign, the launch of the fund was held on 10 January 2017 at Persada Johor International Convention Centre by JCorp President and CEO, YBhg. Dato’ Kamaruzzaman b. Abu Kassim, along with MERCY Malaysia President Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus. Also present at the event were Johor state representative, En. Mohamed Noor Suleiman and Mutiara JCorp chairman Datin Noor Laila Yahaya.

The proceeds from the fund is channelled to MERCY Malaysia for medical supplies and medical equipment to be distributed to war victims in the three countries namely Palestine, Yemen but mainly Syria. Malaysian doctors joining MERCY Malaysia humanitarian missions in the conflict areas would also assist doctors offering medical treatment and services to victims there.

Furthermore, a mock cheque handover of RM463,000 to MERCY Malaysia was held on 15 March 2017 to carry out humanitarian and rehabilitation mission for people affected in conflicts in the Middle East, particularly Syria.

The mock cheque was handed over by JCorp President and CEO Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim to MERCY Malaysia President Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin witnessed the handing over ceremony held at the Menteri Besar’s Office. Also present, Mutiara Johor Corporation chairman Datin Noor Laila Yahaya.

The contribution greatly helped in MERCY Malaysia’s continuous programme to provide primary healthcare and psycho-social treatment for children affected by the conflicts in war-torn countries, particularly Syria. This also includes rehabilitation efforts and a programme to improve midwifery training among Syrians over there to address issues of infant deaths. MERCY Malaysia has sent three teams involved in missions in conflict areas at Aleppo, Syria. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mutiara JCorp and all the contributing organisations for their generosity and support to our Syrian Relief Fund.

MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER HIGHLIGHTS MERCY MALAYSIA, 19 JANUARY 2017

MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER HIGHLIGHTS MERCY MALAYSIA, 19 JANUARY 2017

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak delivered a keynote address at the plenary open session, highlighting MERCY Malaysia by mentioning “Presently, MERCY Malaysia has successfully established static and mobile clinics in Sittwe, Rakhine State, in collaboration with local NGOs, as part of its ongoing efforts to render healthcare services to Internally Displaced Persons in Myanmar”.

On 19 January 2017, MERCY Malaysia attended the Open Session for the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Minority at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Presented at theevent, hosted and chaired by the Malaysian Government, were the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia H.E. Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Hj. Aman, Chair of the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar, Secretary-General of the OIC H.E. Dr Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, Ambassadors from OIC Member States to Malaysia and among others.

The meeting, requested by the Malaysian government, discussed genuine steps that the OIC and the international community should take to urge the Myanmar government to allow delivery of humanitarian assistance to Rakhine State, addressing the root causes of the violence, and widening the scope of dialogue among the groups to ensure the return of the displaced Rohingya population to their homes in safety and dignity. The meeting also discussed the situation of the more than 120,000 displaced and refugee Muslims within Myanmar.

MERCY Malaysia remains engaged in providing aid to the Rohingya both in Myanmar and in Malaysia. We are concerned about the humanitarian situation and urge for better humanitarian access. We also support better conditions for the Rohingya in countries where the Rohingya have become asylum seekers and refugees according to each country’s context. We are confident that the OIC and its membership will be able to play a constructive role towards achieving these stated goals and much more.

It is also important to note that MERCY Malaysia is not in any way part of the flotilla as it is beyond our mandate since the organization does not carry out political advocacy.
