Message from Our President
Thursday, 17 September

2009 Salam and Greetings,

16 September 2009 marks the day that MERCY Malaysia turns ten. On that day, some of us were awakened by an SMS from our dear brother- and colleague-in-arms, Omer Agha, all the way from our base camp in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The message contains his wish and prayer on MERCY Malaysia turning 10 years old.

Perhaps, for some us it's a small thing – and maybe in the practical real-life day-to-day existence that some of us endure in this country, we cannot see the significance. So it had to take someone like Omer, who is in a troubled and dangerous part of the world, to remind and enlighten us on the importance and significance of this momentous occasion for our beloved organisation.

MERCY Malaysia has come a long way and has done so much, Alhamdulillah. But there is still a long way to go and so much to do. To do more, means we have to increase and enhance our individual and organisational capacities. If we truly believe in the noble cause that we serve, then nothing is beyond us, but there will be trial and tribulations that we will have to endure. It's up to each and every one of us, for in the end, all of us are MERCY Malaysia.

Lastly, Omer also perhaps exemplifies the way forward for us in the organisation. A full-time employee who consistently works beyond the call of duty, he has not lost the spirit of volunteerism and altruism. This is something all of us should strive for and hopefully all employees, while being professional, are able to maintain the 'volunteer' spirit in us while the volunteers among us, will strive to increase our professionalism.

So, happy birthday to MERCY Malaysia and may God bless all who work sincerely for all the efforts to make the world a better place to live.

To all our supporters, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and look forward to working together for many more years to come.

Happy 10th Birthday MERCY Malaysia!
